The Meaning of the BWP Art Show

Cherish The Value of Life. Create Art That Helps The Species At Risk.
~ Words from Principal Helena

Thank you everyone for coming to the BWP Art Show 2016-17 to appreciate our students’ paintings! I want to greet all of you Happy New Year and Happy Year of the Rooster!

The Annual Creative Art Show has come to the 12th year! This year, our theme is "Cherish the Value of Life". A total of 160 paintings were exhibited at the upper level Gallery of Toronto Chinese Cultural Centre on Jan 21-23, 2017. I am happy to see students get so interested by this topic. Students got to know many different kinds of affected animal species in the researching process and created amazing work about the animals. They learnt about painting different techniques in details such as on fur, skin textures and patterns. It is amazing that we had not only spreaded the good message to protect the endangered animals but actually physically help saving them from risk and giving them hope by real donations! Through the fund-raising activities since December till the Art Show Day by selling students’ single cards, collectible card series, souvenirs and fluffy animals from WWF Canada, we have successfully raised $1300!

For the past years, the Year-end Art Event motivates all our students by providing everyone a platform to showcase their best work to the public. The Annual Award encourages the students with recognitions for their outstanding creative ideas and techniques. It is inspiring to see more and more increase in the number of participants and obvious improvement in the art quality. The best part of the show is to let students learn from each other, so as to improve for the future! Creating a better piece than last year and being exhibited is already a big satisfaction and honour. Remember, all of you have helped in spreading a good message through your art!

In this exhibition, we have 160 paintings displayed. The awarded winners are selected with many consideration factors such as age, independence and effort in class…etc. Our ratio of judging requirement is simply 50% technique to complete with refinement and 50% Creativity (which includes 30% original concept and how well it matches this year's theme, 20% creativity in artistic composition, design and choice of colour).

Finally I want to thank you so much for our teachers' effort in inspiring all of you in this project and setting this art show together. I hope you all enjoy the art show sharing!
